How To Build Miniature Ruins Step 3: Using Knife and Glue

This is one of the easiest and most effective tricks in making miniature ruins. Using a crafting knife and any strong glue one can make professional quality ruins. First take the knife in your hand and slowly but accurately cut one side of a piece you want removed and repeat the same thing on the other side until you have finished completely.

Then you will see that the slot is made, like planned. From the bits and pieces of foam that could have been there from different terrain projects we take some and glue them to a ruin to add the extra cool effect.

How To Build Miniature Ruins Step 2: Using Your Hands

Ruins are areas of dense rubble, and are places with buildings that have been destroyed, over the years. It is very easy to make this in a smaller scale. Lets get started.

So what first you need a piece of foam broken or intact like this.
Then you have to take your fingers, and break bits of the foam, it won't look like much at first but later when we are finished painting it it will look amazing.

This is what is the result if these steps are repeated on a slightly bigger scale, it will look even better, all thats left to do with this particular ruin is paint it. But before that we have to know how to use the knife and glue, to make a ruin, which will be part of my next post.

How to Build Miniature Ruins Step 1: Getting What You Need

If you don't want to watch the video read on.

So today I am going to tell you what you need to make a miniature ruin. First you need to get some paint brushes, get a fine tip paint brush that is still a bit thick, get a medium sized paint brush, and a large paint brush.

On to the paints, you need to get 4 main colours, white, black, dark brown, and mustardish. There are several other colours, yellow, blue, green, red, and orange are the ones you need, try to get at least two shades of this colour.

A bubbly type of foam is required, as you can just use your fingers to shape the ruin out.

Always remember, be resource full, and never buy miniature ruins.

Miniature Wargaming Ruin

This is a ruin that I made of cheap styrofoam. This was relatively easy to make and took me about one hour thirty minutes to make. It does look pretty realistic.
Although this was primarily a ww2 war-game ruin, it can be used in Warhammer. So how I made it was I took the styrofoam out of a box and used my fingers to break off some of the wall, so it looked like it was ruined, then I used my knife to cut some chunks out. I used light brown and white for the outside, and dark brown with white, or green for the interior. For the floor I used black and white, with watery light brown.
